CORE STABILITY

Core:  The central or innermost part. The center of an object.
Sta-bil-ty: The quality or attribute of being firm and steadfast.

At the Center for Functional Fitness we believe that your core is the foundation of your functional health.  The core is the center of your body and includes the pelvis, hips, and low back area.  The core includes many of the largest and most powerful muscles of your body, the powerful hip muscles, back muscles, and abdominals.  It is where your center of gravity sits, and where the forces from the ground up, and the top down converge.  The forces of gravity, ground reaction and body weight all act together on our body when we move.  As the body twists and turns in space, the forces revolve around the core.  The structural integrity of your body has a lot to do with the stability of your core.

Good posture depends is controlled by the core musculature and determined by your alignment.  Efficient core control is essential for balance and for functional movements.  Your ability to translate forces from your legs to your arms (eg. Throwing a ball), or from your arms to your legs (lowering a heavy weight), is controlled by the powerful muscles which envelop your core.  Without proper core strength and stability your posture collapses and your ability to develop power and strength is depleted.  A weak core is can create inefficient movements and energy leaks as you attempt to move your body against the forces of gravity and external resistance.

At the Center for Functional Fitness we will incorporate the philosophies and approach of renowned Physical Therapist, Gary W. Gray, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Vern Gambetta. in developing the most effective core strengthening program.

Guided by function. Transformation by design.
