POWER

Pow-er:  1: The rate at which work is done, expressed as the amount of work per unit time.  2:  The ability to perform or act effectively.

You’ve watched a boxer knock someone out with a punch that looked like it came out of nowhere.  You’ve seen a gymnast bound effortlessly off the floor and a defensive back explode into a receiver to jar the ball loose.  These are all functional examples of Power.

Power is the ability to develop force quickly, or the ability to combine strength and speed.  Power = force x distance/time, or the rate of force production.  Power is an essential component of most athletic endeavors from throwing a shot put to jumping over a hurdle.  Improving your ability to develop power can also help improve your ability to perform activities of daily living like ascending stairs or digging a hole, as well as athletic endeavors like jumping or hitting a golf ball.

At The Center for Functional Fitness we will incorporate a Power Training Program that will not only improve your ability to express strength quickly, but will train the central nervous system to recruit your muscles faster and more efficiently.  The key to Power development is to increase the speed at which the movements are performed. The Center for Functional Fitness Power programs will involve performing functional movement patterns, dynamic lifts and when appropriate, plyometric exercises as a means of helping you improve power.  In fact our power training will be a hybrid of functional movements and plyometrics that are performed at a load and speed that will maximize power output without creating undo stress or injury.

Metabolic Power training involves performing exercises fast while reducing the rest time between exercises.  This is the basic formula used in circuit training.  By decreasing the rest time between exercises you will train your body to recover, quickly.  Athletic sports like soccer and basketball require your body to perform quick bursts of energy followed by periods of rest.  The Power Endurance programs will help you endure the fatigue that sets in due to the build-up of Lactic acid in your muscles. Ultimately, these programs will help you do more work in less time or do the same amount of work, faster.

Guided by function. Transformation by design
